Do I need a 3rd party antivirus for my windows system Y/N =NO

Honestly a decent paid A/V on deep sale (they are listed all the time) is the best solution..
Using a cracked version of an A/V is letting the fox guard the henhouse in my estimation.
What's the best A/V? Good question. Different strokes for different folks. So Defender is far better than a cracked A/V programs any day.
I should probably elaborate. As we all know the best A/V program is the common sense nested between your two ears. Again if you take a good look at various A/V security programs some prioritize different aspects of security. I have subscribed to some programs with very high marks however they are far too nervous for my use, constantly bothering me and hell bent on not allow me to install cracked programs no matter what with Defender at the top of the heap.
For the program I currently prefe, some members here do like it one bit. I can attest it keeps me secure and isn't always in my face. It can be easily tailored to suit my needs and temperament.

Windows Defender should be renamed to Windows DOORSTEP, because its always annoyingly tripping you up when you think you have something fixed. In my years of computing building and programming it is the one sole set of programs that has earned me more money than any other, Its lkike your Grandmother "You shouldnt be doing that it isnt good for you" responses.

Personally I started using Comodo Internet Security a couple of years after it was launched, back then it was free for home users and has since become a pretty awesome reason to turn off Microsoft protection altogether, even though MS keep flagging up "U are aware that Comodo and MS Defender are both turned off!!!" Yes i AM AWARE THANKS, Except that Comodo runs 100% of the time and has kept my machine free of issues and (coughs) Hackers for all this time. Malware is easily spotted simply because it does stuff malware does and gets shut down quarantined and wiped in short order.

Norton / Symantec, well what can I say the firm I work for insists on using Norton and SYmantrec security because it costs more so it must be awesome, funny how my personal computer at work is the only one that people come to when theirs packs up with things getting in the system.

So in answer to this debate from me, Yes by all means get 3rd Party security and turn off Grandma completely, Im not telling you to buy Comodo, nor am I recommending it, setting it up is not for the faint hearted, but once set, feel free to browse all the bit.ly sites you like without a problem.

Continue to use MS Defender at your peril. remember that every few years MS stop supporting software, purely because they want to sell you another batch of junk they have written and with that comes yet more MS protection juink and so the world turns once more, yet I still have comodo in my system. My only issue in the UK is having an ISP that turns me off when I try to use a VPN, but blocks every site of use to me in most cases.

So in the debate of 3rd Party I go with a 100% yes, screw MS DEFENDER AND ANTIVIRUS.

As alternative to windows defender i recommend commercial ones. I have purchased a few years ago Kaspersky (RU) and Panda (ES) for my use. The only problem is licensing as you are buying for a year or two of free updates. If you are into stepping up your security install K9 Web Protection too. It has been acquired by Symantec and discontinued, if you have an old account and installer, you can still use it with no updates for free.

I use Windows Defender along with the built-in security that comes with windows. I recently added Avira and have noticed a huge uptick in performance since adding Avira to my lineup.
I love being alerted to threat actors trying to scan my system and being able to stop them right then.
Best security I've ever had, and I've tried them all.

broduer,
Welcome to the Windows forum.
I have Bitdefender Internet Security installed and very satisfied with the protection it provides. I will definitely renew when its due.

'nuff said. Defender is always snooping around using a huge chunk of resource. I don't mind being alerted, but always keep in mind the best antivirus exists between your two ears. The stuff you need protection from is the crap that tries to sneak it's way in through your browser. That's the most important protection an antivirus can provide.
I guess you can blame the browsers themselves for the biggest security holes in your system. AFFA Soc. Isn't going to agree but I am finding Malwarebytes browser extension as good or better than ublock esp since it's no longer working for any of the Chromium powered browsers. To top it off very easy on the resource consumption.
As I already mentioned it all depends on a whole bunch of your personal habits and needs what is going to work best for you. There are a bunch of good antivirus security packages out there, most have free trials so why not find what's best for you? I wouldn't go by what PC magazine scores by hits, they all get the job done. Keep in mind the most popular programs are the biggest targets for exploits.
